Case timeline and cash flow
The Ort case in chronological order: what happened, what money moved, and the documents behind each step.
The full arc of the case — events and money together, in the order they happened. Every figure links to its cataloged evidence. For the same figures organized by category rather than by year, see Monies received, 2000–2017 .
1999
December. Sarah Ort changes the status of her custodial account so she can take the money in it; her sister Miriam follows suit. A 2002 Smith Barney letter confirms Sarah’s account held $182,619.28 ; Miriam’s December 2001 trust withdrawal memo is cataloged here . R’ Avraham, still living at home trying to save the marriage, learns of this only in September 2002.
2000
January 4. Mrs. Ort wires $350,000 from her late mother-in-law’s Discount Bank account to an Israel account already holding $250,000, then gives the full $600,000 to her cousin R’ Ira Adler to disburse to “a yeshiva” (unnamed) — one month before filing for divorce. ( authorization · deposition )
February. Mrs. Ort files for divorce in New Jersey state court. All accounts are frozen, as is usual, to prevent dissipation of assets before settlement.
June 2000 – August 2001. R’ Avraham moves back into the family home to attempt reconciliation, remaining fourteen months. He consents to the release of $342,210 from the couple’s joint account during this period — $316,210.52 in four court-ordered payments plus a $26,000 check. ( arbitration excerpt )
2001
November 27. With reconciliation failed, the court awards Mrs. Ort pendente lite support of $25,000 per month, retroactive to July 2001 — $250,000 for 2001 — drawn from the joint account, which held about $668,512.34 at the case’s opening. ( order · family account list )
2002–2003
2002: $300,000 in support (12 × $25,000), still from the joint account.
March 2003: the joint account runs dry. The court permits support to be drawn from the children’s accounts instead and lowers the amount to $11,000 per month. The children’s accounts — funded by R’ Avraham’s family — are documented at about $852,000 across three snapshots: $653,145.84 in eleven Smith Barney accounts , $182,619.28 in Sarah Ort’s separate account , and $16,000 across eight First Union trusts . ( 2006 order confirming $11,000/month )
2003 support totals $191,000: five months at $25,000 plus six at $11,000.
2004–2010
$132,000 per year in court-ordered support ($11,000 × 12), continuing through 2010. Separately, the children’s real-estate rental income flows at $70,365 per year: $52,333 received in 2006, $70,365 in 2007 and 2008, $139,000 in 2009, $70,365 in 2010 — $402,428 in all. ( rental-income excerpts )
2007. The court case concludes. The final arbitration treats $1,000,000 in children’s custodial accounts and the rental income as part of the settlement picture. ( Schedule A · final arbitration ruling )
2012
Manhattan co-op. The court-awarded apartment at 415 Grand Street is sold for $445,000; after closing debits the adjusted net is $299,212.04. ( closing letter, Jan 15, 2013 · closing statement )
Lakewood house. The marital home at 1015 Forest Ave is sold for $340,000 (Manya Ort to SAL Holdings LLC, May 31, 2012) — after a $1 deed to her son-in-law and in defiance of the Baltimore Beis Din’s ikul. ( $340,000 deed · ikul · $1 deed )
2016–2017
2016. The last child is emancipated; court-ordered support ends. Commercial-building income of $302,000 is documented in the February 2017 stipulation. ( stipulation )
2017. The commercial buildings of R’ Avraham’s yerusha are sold: $3,000,000 (Jamaica Avenue settlement) + $3,000,000 (East 16th Street settlement) = $6,000,000. ( Jamaica Ave · East 16th St )
